The Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882 by a group of men led by a dedicated parish priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, in New Haven, Conneticut. The Order was chartered to serve and provide financial aid and assistance to members and their families.

We have now grown to over 13,000 councils and our membership exceeds 1.7 million Catholic families. Practicing Catholic men at least 18 years of age are eligible for membership.

The Order has been called "the strong right arm of the Church" and has been praised by popes, presidents and other world leaders. In 2008, the Knights made charitable contributions in the amount of $150,036,865 despite a weakened economy. In the same year, the Knights of Columbus volunteered 68,783,653 hours of service to charitable causes!
